I had meant to hit the town last night and write about my experience in the little Ethiopian corridor on Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring. The area stretching from the DC/MD line (just before Montgomery County Community College) to just south of the Discovery Channel headquarters is easily home to 7 or 8 Ethiopian restaurants. These include my favorite, Langano, as well as Lucy, Gebeta, and the trendy looking LacoMelza, opposite Blair Park.
The closer you get to downtown Silver Spring, the more enthusiastic the night life scene at these restaurants, most of which feature live music on the weekends. Unfortunately, I fell asleep rather unexpectedly, so I cannot share any experiences with Africa in DC readers.
In lieu of a more detailed post, enjoy these pics I took while walking home from Miss Africa USA last weekend. I will also add that my favorite Ethiopian spot in Silver Spring is on Fenton Street rather than Georgia Avenue. Lesaac Cafe has delicious pastries, which I am sure would have made the aspiring Italian colonizers of Ethiopia proud.
For those of you who enjoy hookah, head just into the DC border on Georgia Ave and there will be several Ethiopian restaurants/lounges there that cover you (including one that is also billed as having Tex-Mex food).
