Miss Africa USA

I had a great time at Miss Africa USA this past summer and I was then fortunate enough to subseuquently interview Carol Zigani, who is based in northern Virginia and represented Burkina Faso in the contest.

I had such a splendid time at the event that I think it is worth doing some promotion on their behalf.  I just discovered that the hosts of Miss Africa USA are putting on a fundraiser this weekend near Dupont Circle at the Fraser Mansion.  If you’d like to attend, registration info is here.

I’m always encouraging the policy types here to get out of their comfort zones, this might be a great opportunity to do so and for a good cause (although to be honest, I have no idea as to what sort of an audience would come out for this).

I recently raved about the great night of entertainment that was Miss Africa USA in Silver Spring.  While most of the contestants represented a wide range of African nations and a large swathe of American geography, a few, such as Carol Zigani, were local.  Carol, who is based in Manassas, represented Burkina Faso and answered some of my questions on African politics, culture, and Africa in DC issues via e-mail. I wrote yesterday about everything that went on at Miss Africa USA (an evening of beauty, talent, and grace) aside from the contest itself. To get the most important question aside first, namely which female did I find most physically attractive, that honor went to Continue reading →

This post sets the stage for a 2nd post on the Miss Africa Contestants, so read part II tomorrow to see who was crowned the queen.  There was alot going on while the contestants were changing costumes, I cover that below.

My attendance at Saturday’s Miss Africa USA was a $30 incredibly well spent (and not just because it took 6 hours to crown a queen).  It was my first attendance at a major African cultural event since my very first post on the Liberian Entertainment Awards.  I not only got to see attractive African women on stage and in the audience (and a female Ghanaian King), I was treated to a concert, spoken word poetry, a fashion show, and dance.  Many of the contestants were oozing with Continue reading →

I have no idea what to expect for this, but I’ll be sure to attend the Miss Africa USA pageant at the Fillmore in Silver Spring on June 29.  Does anyone have an idea as to who the celebrity judges might be?

I always encourage guest posts, if one of you pageant contestants wants to reach out to me, feel free to do so!

FYI, I’ll be taking a break from blogging this weekend, but should resume early next week.
